Introducing MCB:
MCB Bank Limited is a Pakistani multinational commercial bank headquartered in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. The bank has an extensive network of 1,551 branches in Pakistan. Most shares are held by the Pakistani company Nishat Group and the Malaysian bank May Bank.
The bank was established to provide banking services to the South Asian business community. Adam G Group was added on 9 July 1947. The bank was nationalized in 1974 under the Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto government. It was the first bank to be privatized in 1991 and was bought by a consortium of Pakistani corporate groups led by the Nishat Group. Since June 2008, the Nishat Group has owned a majority stake in the bank. The president of this bank is Shoaib Mumtaz.
Mian Muhammad is the Chairman of both Mansha Group and MCB. The group operates in the country’s business sectors such as banking, textiles, cement, and insurance. The bank has established an Islamic banking unit that offers Shariah products and services, with dedicated Islamic banking branches in six cities.
In 2005, the bank’s management changed its name from Muslim Commercial Bank Limited to MCB Bank Limited to explore international markets. He faced opposition to getting a license, especially from Western countries, because of the word Muslim. In 2008, the headquarters of MCB was shifted from MCB Tower, Karachi to Lahore in a newly constructed building, MCB House, located on Ghous-ul-Azam Street, commonly known as Jail Road.
