About Pakistan Navy
Pakistan Navy (PN) (Urdu: پاکستان باحری) (Romanized: Pākistan Bāhrí’a; pronounced [ˈpaːkɪstaːn baɦɽiːa]) is the naval branch of the Armed Forces of Pakistan. It came into existence through the transfer of personnel and equipment from the Royal Indian Navy, which ended after the partition of India through an Act of Parliament which established the birth of Pakistan and India’s independence from Britain on 15 August 1947.
Its primary objective is to ensure the defense of Pakistan’s lines of communication and to protect Pakistan’s maritime interests by implementing national policies through military influence, diplomatic and humanitarian activities in support of these objectives.[13][14] In addition to its combat service, the Navy has mobilized its combat assets for inland humanitarian relief operations as well as participation in United Nations-sponsored multinational task forces to combat maritime terrorism and offshore secrecy. [15][16]
The Pakistan Navy is an all-volunteer force that has twice been in conflict with neighboring India over its maritime borders, and has been called upon to act as a military advisor to the Gulf Arab states and other friendly countries during the events of multinational conflicts. Has been deployed repeatedly in the Indian Ocean. As part of its commitment to the United Nations. Since its inception on 14 August 1947, the Navy’s defense role has expanded from being the protector of Pakistan’s second strike capability with the ability to secure sea lanes and launch underwater missile systems to target enemy positions.
The Navy is commanded by the Chief of Naval Staff, a four-star admiral, who is a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee. The Chief of Navy is nominated by the Prime Minister and appointed by the President of Pakistan. The current Chief Admiral is Amjad Khan Niazi who was appointed on 7 October 2020. Admiral Niazi is the 22nd Chief of the Pakistan Navy who took charge after Zafar Mahmood Abbasi.
